Borrow his car and have a new stereo system installed.

 Give tickets to a local sporting event he'll enjoy and suggest he bring along his best buddy...other than you.

While he's at work, have his car cleaned and detailed or do it yourself as a labor of love.

Compile some romantic memory photos in a decorative album and mark with sentimental captions.
